Latest Release - Manhattan Beach, 1907
California has a long history of surfing dating back to the early 1900’s when Hawaiian surfing legends George Freeth & Duke Kahanamoku were said to have popularized the sport on the mainland.
In the 1930s, the Manhattan Beach Surf Club was established and became a hub for surfers, hosting contests and events. The popularity of surfing continued to grow in the 1950s and 60s, with notable surfers such as Greg Noll and Dewey Weber calling Manhattan Beach their home.
With a history like that, I knew I had to create an image paying tribute Manhattan Beach’s surf culture which still remains significant today.
